Wound Healing

Dr. Jon McAnulty studies the mechanisms of cellular injury during hypothermia and ischemia. Current focus is on the effects of bioactive peptides on kidneys stored ex vivo at low temperatures.

The thrust of this work is to reduce injury to organs stored for transplantation in order to reduce the incidence of delayed function and chronic allograft nephropathy as well as to increase the donor organ supply for human transplantation.

Other ongoing research projects include studies on engineering the molecular basis of wounds for augmentation of healing, studies targeted at improving the outcomes in clinical feline kidney transplantation, development of new methods for treatment of chylothorax in dogs and cats and studies on novel methods for performance of cardio-pulmonary bypass for heart surgery.
