Relationship with Academia

Serving as a portal into OSOD members' laboratories, OSOD academic vision scientists are located at universities across North America. With over 600 projects in our 30-year history including advising on development programs and hands-on conduct of preclinical studies.

Industry Interface

  • OSOD is a consulting consortium specifically formed to interface with industry. It serves as the portal through which pharmaceutical companies can access the expertise of university-based vision scientists.

University Resources

  • Behind each of our OSOD members is a fully-functioning research laboratory supported by university-based resources at one of the following universities: University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of California-Davis, Texas Tech University, University of Houston, Cornell University, Ohio State University, University of Indiana, Medical University of South Carolina, and McMaster University.

Member Committment

  • OSOD members understand that in addition to having experience and expertise, data integrity, quality, maintaining timelines and open lines of communication are key components of any project and they carry these elements over to their university-based industry. Our members are committed to assisting industry in bringing the next generation of ocular therapeutics and devices to market for the benefit of patients.

Selecting the Right Partner

  • OSOD is poised to assist industry in selecting the optimum setting and the appropriate experts to conduct any potential study designed to benefit patients with ocular diseases. We have found that small proof-of-concept or pilot studies, particularly those requiring specialized equipment, are often best conducted within the university setting. When appropriate, our personnel work with CRO experts in translating university-based models to a CRO environment. We hope that you will enter into discussion with us so that we can help you get in contact with the appropriate expert within our extensive consortium.
