Robert Shimizu, PhD

Dr. Rob Shimizu brings over 35 years of corporate experience in ophthalmology ranging from research to development of pharmaceuticals, ocular devices, and combination products for diseases in both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye.  Rob has successfully led multinational—interdisciplinary teams through regulatory activities leading to approvals in North America, the EU, and Asia.

Welcome, Reneé Smith!

Reneé Smith, a preclinical professional with over 25 years of experience in quality assurance (QA) and education, has joined the OSOD team. Reneé brings wide-ranging experience in all aspects of auditing and QA, including software validations. She also has over 15 years of experience implementing adult learning programs in the preclinical drug development setting. Her unique skillset and experience will greatly facilitate OSOD's in-house GLP capabilities, and enhance all aspects of the company's QA procedures and employee education programs.  

Ala Moshiri, MD, PhD

We are pleased to annouce the addition of Dr. Ala Moshiri, Assistant Professor of Vitreoretinal Surgery and Uveitis at the UC Davis School of Medicine, to the clinical and investigative teams at OSOD.  Dr. Moshiri brings extensive research experience in retinal genetics and retinal stem cell biology as well as clinical expertise involving all diseases of the retina, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachment. He also maintains interests in hereditary retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa, Stargardt disease, and other related genetic conditions.

Carl Marfurt, PhD

OSOD is pleased to annouce that Dr. Carl Marfurt, Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Indiana University School of Medicine, has joined our team of vision scientists.  Dr. Marfurt brings world-class experience and expertise in the areas of comparative corneal neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, corneal wound healing, and ocular surface disease.  

Donald O. Mutti, OD, PhD

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Donald O. Mutti to the OSOD vision science team. Dr. Mutti is the E.F. Wildermuth Foundation Professor of Optometry at The Ohio State University College of Optometry. His research career began in the contact lens industry with CooperVision Ophthalmic Products where he evaluated lens design and product performance during in-house clinical trials. Dr. Mutti's current research interests are in the emmetropization of infants and the development of myopia in children.
