Dr. Chandler is the founder of Chandler and Chandler Associates, a consulting company, devoted to the translation of ideas from preclinical and early clinical research to approval of drugs and devices for ophthalmology. His expertise is based upon his NIH-supported career in research in immunology/inflammation and infectious diseases, along with patient care and clinical trial planning, conduct, oversight and administration.
Dr. Chandler has served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Since 1995, he has held positions as medical director and vice president of clinical affairs at two ophthalmic biotech companies and has had key roles in the regulatory approvals of one anterior and two posterior segment drugs. He has also served as a consultant to other ophthalmic commercial entities, universities, and clinical research organizations on strategic development for new entities, repurposing of established drug entities, getting programs to fiscal and regulatory decision points, and developing requests for proposals. He has assisted in the establishment of two biotech companies.
Dr. Chandler has also served on the National Advisory Eye Council at NIH, chaired the National Eye Institute’s Board of Scientific Counselors, and chaired a FDA Advisory Panel. He holds a certificate from Johns Hopkins University in the Business of Medicine. His extensive research and clinical trial experiences in industry and other organizations have supplemented his comprehensive capabilities to enhance the progression of client’s research and development programs to appropriate preclinical and clinical trials in an orderly and expedient manner while avoiding suboptimal strategic decisions for clients.
